The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Prof. Celeste Saulo, and the Director-General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Mr Willie Walsh, recently sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that seeks to further the cooperation between the two organizations.

The MoU recognizes the desire of WMO and IATA to communicate and, where necessary, collaborate on topics of mutual interest, such as the improvement of analysis and forecasting of atmospheric conditions and phenomena along flight routes, landing and departure, and the reduction of the environmental footprint of aviation.

The MoU will remain in force for an initial period of three years, with the prospect of automatic renewal every three years thereafter.
