World Meteorological Organization

Under the guidance of [Japan]the RA II MG, and in collaboration with RA II WGs and other CP(s),

(1) Ensure that the contributions in research (LTG 3) pertaining to the Region priorities are coordinated, contribute to the RA II Operating Plan/Work Programme relevant to the research and innovation matters;

(2) Identify research needs and priorities among RA II [Japan] Members, including the implementation of the regional aspects of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP), the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Global Atmosphere Watch Programme (GAW), and support capacity-development activities (LTG 4), to be included in the RA II Operating Plan/Work Programme;

(3) Recommend research-related sub-structures, as necessary, e.g. ETs/JETs and FPs, under the WG Infrastructure and WG Services;

(4) Identify experts who serve on both RB and the CP Research and Innovation to assist with the sharing of regional priorities and requirements and the implementation of research priorities and associated capacity-development activities;

(5) Liaise with RB through the RA II representative in RB, ensuring alignment and collaboration on behalf of the Association;

(6) Reach out, promote, and collaborate with global/regional/national research institutions, academia, and other stakeholders to enhance national and regional partnerships for weather, climate, water, and environment-related research[Japan];

(7) Propose and monitor RA II demonstration and pilot projects, workshops, and forums related to research and innovation, and share corresponding information in advance, with the support of Members;

(8) Facilitate the exchange of best practices to communicate on the socioeconomic benefits and uncertainty of meteorological and hydrological forecasts and services, including communicating skills with Government agencies and the public, social media, etc.;

(9) Facilitate the sharing of knowledge, experience, and technology related to research and innovation among RA II Members;

(10) Submit annual reports to the president of RA II, according to the RA II Operating Plan/Work Programme and share the report with RA II [Japan] Members and RB.
