Implementing Early Warnings for All - Regional Outlook

To support implementation of the Early Warnings for All initiative, an online event was held on 28 March 2023, as a side event to the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE region.

It was co-led and co-chaired by Dr. Kornélia Radics, Director, Regional Office for Europe, WMO and Mr. Octavian Bivol, Chief, Regional Office for Europe & Central Asia, UNDRR. The event was organized in collaboration with the regional UN Task Team on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction of the regional UN Issue-Based Coalition on Climate Change and Environment.

The objectives of the event included: Introduction to the Early Warnings for All Initiative, mobilizing support and engagement on its delivery; Showcasing how stakeholders are taking forward the Early Warnings for All Action Plan pillars at different levels; Providing a platform for stakeholders to share challenges and opportunities and identifying possible ways forward.

The side event convened stakeholders from the region to provide a Regional Outlook. The panelists represented the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, European Emergency Number Association, International Federation of Red Cross, Red Crescent Society of Kyrgyzstan contributed to it by showcasing the work they do that is relevant to each of the EW4A pillars, and thereby, kick-start a discussion on challenges, opportunities, and possible ways forward for the initiative in the region. Representatives of UN agencies, regional and national institutions from public, research and private sector attended the event.
