Aviation | News | 2021-02-09 | Further 12-month postponement of IWVA/8

Further to the Services for Aviation News Item of 24 April 2020 notifying of the postponement from October 2020 to (provisionally) October 2021 of the Eighth International Workshop on Volcanic Ash (IWVA/8) in Reykjavik, Iceland, after careful consideration of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and expectations for the remainder of this year, WMO, in consultation with the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) and the IWVA Scientific Organizing Committee (SOC), has taken the difficult but necessary decision to postpone the physical (face-to-face) workshop for a further 12 months - provisionally to week commencing 10 October 2022.

The SOC is reviewing the possibility to convene a series of online virtual seminars ('webinars') later in 2021 and/or early 2022 to maintain community interest and engagement in the scientific, technological and operational developments associated with the international airways volcano watch. WMO and its partners will release information in this connection in due course, as/when necessary.
