RA VI Hydrology Panel- September Meeting- Highlights

The RA VI Coordination Panel on Hydrology held its second 2025 meeting, bringing together six of ten members to review progress, assign responsibilities, and plan ahead.

Panel members reviewed the 2025 Work Plan, confirmed Marius Matreata as Vice-Chair, and adopted updates assigning leads for critical activities, including the Draft Statement on Europe – Hydrological Conditions in 2024.

Chaired by Angela Chiara Corina, with Vice-Chair Marius Matreata leading key discussions, the meeting reinforced the Panel’s commitment to strategic coordination and operational readiness. The Panel acknowledged achievements since June and clarified next steps for ongoing initiatives.

Preparations for the RA VI Hydrological Assembly in autumn 2026 were a key focus. The Assembly will enhance cooperation among National Hydrological Services and support integrated approaches to Europe’s water-related challenges. Members agreed on reviewing RA VI hydrology policy instruments and consulting advisers to inform both the WMO Strategic Plan 2028–2031 and Assembly documents.

The meeting also emphasized cross-cutting collaboration across RA VI sectors, with water serving as a connector between meteorology, climate, disaster risk reduction, and observation systems.

The 2026–2030 Action Plan was adopted, providing a clear roadmap for the Panel’s future work. Preparations for the Hydrological Advisers Forum and ongoing initiatives will continue, with the next meeting planned for mid-November 2025.
