RA VI Management Group Eighth Meeting– Key Highlights

The RA VI Management Group convened its eighth meeting on June 11, 2024, at the WMO Headquarters in Geneva.

Held alongside the seventy-eighth session of the WMO Executive Council (EC-78), the schedule was particularly demanding for the RA VI president, who was engaged in EC-78 side events.

In her absence, Dr. Jan Danhelka, Hydrological Adviser of Czechia and Co-Vice-President of INFCOM, chaired the meeting on her behalf.

The meeting focused on advancing regional meteorological and hydrological priorities, addressing key areas such as:

  • Preparations for the RA VI-19 Session
  • Regional Needs and Collaborative Efforts, and
  • Future Steps and Events

Discussions highlighted the alignment of the RA VI-19 Session with WMO frameworks, the prioritization of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, and efforts to streamline policy instruments.

Participants emphasized enhanced collaboration among National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and European organizations, addressing financial disparities, and supporting less-resourced countries, particularly in Southeastern Europe. Initiatives to consolidate platforms like ICSEED and ICCED and improve communication across the region were also discussed.

Looking forward, the group expressed interest in events on cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and ECMWF services, aiming to drive innovation and foster stronger collaboration.

The next RA VI Management Group meeting will likely be held virtually, with the date and time to be determined.
