WIS | News | 2025-09 | WIS 2.0 Training Workshop in Guangzhou, China

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in collaboration with the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), successfully organized the WIS2 training workshop in Guangzhou from 15 to 19 September 2025.

This workshop was hosted by the Greater Bay Area (GBA) branch of the World Meteorological Center (WMC) Beijing.
A total of 16 Members from RA II participated in the training, including India, Maldives, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR, Mongolia, South Korea, Macao (China), Hong Kong (China), Sri Lanka, Nepal, and China. For the first time, the training saw collaboration across multiple GISCs, with three GISCs from RA II contributing through training, presentations, or participant support.

The five-day training combined presentations on WIS2 architecture with hands-on exercises, giving participants practical experience on using WIS2 in a box, an open-source reference implementation of a WIS 2.0 Node. Participants also presented their national observation network's current status and their national WIS2 implementation plan.

The workshop promoted collaboration among GISCs and RA II countries, enhancing readiness for WIS2 implementation.
