WIS 2.0 Global Services

Operational WIS 2.0 Global Services

WIS 2.0 Global Services are a suite of centralized capabilities that enable data discovery, access, monitoring, notification distribution, and ensure efficient and reliable data exchange on a global scale. These services play a crucial role in maintaining the resilience, high availability, and accessibility of the WIS 2.0 system, supporting seamless collaboration among data providers and consumers worldwide.

WIS2 Global Services include:

  • Global Broker: Distributes notification messages across the system for real-time data discovery.
  • Global Cache: Stores and provides access to frequently requested data, improving efficiency and reducing latency in data retrieval.
  • Global Discovery Catalogue: Enables users to search for and browse metadata descriptions of published data.
  • Global Monitor: Tracks data publication, accessibility, and system performance to ensure reliability.

For more details on the role of WIS2 Global Services within the WIS2 network please visit the WIS 2.0 Overview page.

During the transition period, the following temporary services are also available:

  • GTS-to-WIS2 Gateway: Publishes all data on the GTS onto WIS2
  • WIS2-to-GTS Gateway: Publishes a subset of data on WIS2 onto GTS

For more details on transition period and the gateways please review the GTS-to-WIS2 transition guidance.

During the pre-operational phase, the Standing Committee on Information Management and Technology (SC-IMT) conducted performance tests on WIS 2.0 Global Services to verify their compliance with WIS 2.0 requirements and ensure their readiness for operational deployment in early January 2025. These tests were crucial in evaluating the system’s ability to deliver reliable, efficient, and high-performing services to the global community.

Following the successful completion of these tests, WIS 2.0 officially entered its operational phase on 1 January 2025, with the following key global services beginning to serve the community in an operational capacity:
