NEW: Provisional 2024 Edition of the Guide to Operational Weather Radar Best Practices (WMO-No.1257)

The Guide to Operational Weather Radar Best Practices has been developed by the INFCOM Joint Expert Team on Operational Weather Radars (JET-OWR) with the aim to become an important source of guidance material on various aspects of the operational weather radar. The guide provides complementary and supportive guidance on the weather radar-related matters already available in the Guide to Instruments and Methods of Observation (WMO-No. 8) and in the Guide to WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) (WMO-No. 1165).

Volumes I, II, III and VII have already been approved by EC-76, and published as  the Guide to Operational Weather Radar Best Practices (WMO-No.1257).

The preliminary 2024 edition of the Guide to Operational Weather Radar Best Practices for new Volumes IV, V, and VI were submitted to the Members for their review.

During the Members’ review process, comments have been received from: China, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, and Sweden. The comments  have been reviewed by the INFCOM/SC-MINT/Editorial Board and JET-OWR. The majority of the comments have been addressed and  incorporated in the text of the provisional edition and are displayed in a track-change mode. More complex comments have been well noted and will be addressed by the relevant expert groups in the next intersessional period. The table showing the comments and review remarks is available here.

The text of the Provisional 2024 Edition is accessible in the table below. It is submitted to the third session of the Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information Systems (INFCOM-3) for approval.

Notes: Remaining volume (VIII) is still under development.
